Nutrition Support (Nilishe)

Rationale

Adequate nutrition is essential for children’s growth, cognitive development, and school performance. Yet hunger is a persistent problem in Kenya’s vulnerable communities. Ensuring that children have at least three nutritious meals a day is a core part of our holistic model, directly addressing SDG 2: Zero Hunger.

Strategic Objectives

Improve food security and nutritional status of children in the program. By 2028, 100% of children supported by Youthful Faces will receive at least three balanced meals per day, either through direct food support or facilitated access, and communities will have increased capacity for sustained food security.

Measurable Targets (2026 - 2028)
Meal Provision

Provide food support (monthly caregiver food support or school food plan payments) to at least 80 children by 2028, scaling up from the current ~45 children. Monitor each child’s meal frequency via caregiver reports or school records to ensure the three-meals-a-day goal is met.

Nutrition Outcomes

Conduct basic health and growth monitoring. Children’s BMI and growth percentiles will be tracked annually in partnership with local clinics.

Nutrition support directly contributes to SDG 2 and is part of the “integrated package” of OVC care. In Kenya’s context of rising food prices, nutritional support is essential.
